| Obese Seniors prefer Gastric Surgery to Diet Pills
September 27, 2005
Research work on the beneficial effects of gastric surgeries
on obese seniors have brought in convincing results prompting
more senior members to try their luck in surgeries. A study
conducted by the Columbia University’s center for Obesity
Surgery in New York found that patients over 60 got the same
benefits from the surgery as the younger crowd and post surgery
complications also showed a similar rating.
Gastric surgeries correct diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea
and heartburn reflux to certain extend. These surgeries reduce
the size of the stomach to limit food intake. The numbers
of seniors who resort to weight loss surgeries have gone up
by fifty percent. As many private insurance companies cover
bariatric surgery, patients find it cheaper than opting for
long-term treatment of obesity related diseases.
