Weight loss surgery in demand over
diet pills
September 20, 2005
Research conducted in Melbourne analyzed surgery as the
best option available today to treat obesity. Professor
O’Brian said, obesity is a health issue which is greatly
increasing today and surgery involving an adjustable band
around the stomach produces excellent weight loss results.
But people who are not privately insured or who can’t
pay for surgery are finding it difficult to access the treatment.
Researchers feel an Obesity discrimination which is a depressive
trend. Though the surgery option is also possible with Medicare,
public hospitals are not keen on the surgery as they fail
to recognize its economic and health benefits. Health experts
are concerned about the growing obesity epidemic as they
say, it is a major problem and weight loss is achievable
at the cost of a surgery and that’s the cost public
hospitals are not wiling to bear.
