Special tools ordered to treat the Obese
October 2, 2005
Many hospitals in Scotland are importing equipments from
America in order to operate on obese patients. The instruments
available with the Scottish doctors are not enough to treat
the overweight or obese people.
The overweight patients fail to fit into conventional operating
tables. Scalpels and ultrasound scanners are not able to
penetrate the deep layers of fat on many patients. An Obstetrician
says that caesarian sections have to be conducted on hospital
bed at times as the patient gets too heavy for the operating
table. Also, obese pregnant women weigh more than 20 stone
and doctors struggle to cope with the surgery. Due to the
inability to penetrate large fat deposits, many birth defects
and complications go unnoticed.
