November 24, 2005
A study suggests that Rimonabant, a drug that helps people
lose weight by blocking pleasure centers in the brain also
significantly improves metabolic risk factors in overweight
people at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The
selective cannabinoid-1 receptor blocker, significantly
reduces body weight, waist circumference and various other
risk factors in overweight patients with dyslipidaemia.
The findings also suggested that the drug reduced metabolic
