Negative impact of obesity in diabetics
November 14, 2005
Latest research finding suggests that obesity can hamper
the memory of diabetics. It could lead to impaired memory
for people with Type 2 diabetes. The research team studied
the effects of high-fat diets and obesity on learning and
memory using rats as the model. Significant changes were
observed in their learning and memorizing ability.
The study was done using obese and lean rats and they were
put through a series of learning and memory recall exercises
for understanding the impact of obesity in the memory of
obese rats. The differences in memory function were observed
in the trials. The trials tested their ability to remember
what they had learned. The ability of the obese rats to
recall specific information deteriorated as the time between
trials was increased. It indicates that obesity can result
in memory loss in diabetics.
