November 3, 2005
Obesity can be extremely fatal for our health. An overweight
person is at a significantly higher risk of developing myeloid
leukemia, a particular type of cancer. A recent study conducted
on people aged between 27 to 75 years found out that those
who were overweight or obese were about five times more
likely to develop myeloid leukemia as compared to people
with normal weight.
Myeloid leukemia can be mainly divided into two categories, the acute form and the chronic one. The acute form usually affects adults but can also occur in children and adolescents whereas the chronic form is very rare and uncommon below the age of 20.
Previous studies also suggested the link between obesity
and colon cancer, post-menopausal breast cancer, endometrial
cancer, kidney cancer and esophageal cancer. It directly
implies to the fact that obesity is associated with cancer
