Belly Fat distinction of Black and White fat Women

May 11, 2006

Experts found new evidence regarding why weight loss may be mostly hard for Corpulent black women.

Hisham Barakat, PhD, medicine department of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and colleagues studied the belly fat of 14 extremely obese black women and found new evidence that helps in finding the answer of why weight loss may be mostly hard for Corpulent black women.

Barakat's team inscribes in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism that the previous studies have shown that "obese African-American women lose less weight and at a slower rate than Caucasian women do, across a variety of treatments including conservative interventions, very low calorie intake, and surgery"

Belly fat examination

The study has been done on 14 white fat women and 14 black fat women with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 40 by the experts. A BMI of 30 or more falls in the category of obese people.

These selected women for Bakarta`s study came for gastric bypass surgery to East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. . By means of the women's consent, doctors took fat samples from the women during surgery. Two fat samples have been taken from women one from the just below the women slim and other from the deep inside the abdominal area.

The experts were especially anxious in certain cellular receptors in the women's fat tissue which act as docks for a chemical called adenosine and curb fat collapse.

Results of belly fat

Barakat and colleagues established that the plump black women had more adenosine receptors in their deep abdominal fat than the plump white women.

"The findings don't fully explain why weight loss may be stiffer for chubby black women than for chubby white women"Medical Experts said after the study.
"No doubt these findings will be helpful in designing new strategies for the control and preventions of obesity in [African-American women] and other women as well," write Barakat and colleagues.
