Study relates obesity to inflammation
March 08, 2006
Research suggests that the biggest problem with obesity
may be an inflammation response fueled by fat. Two Warwick
Medical School researchers tracked a large group of subjects
from three ethnic groups. They found that as body mass index
and waist-hip ratio increased so did the levels of sE-selectin,
a marker of inflammation produced by artery walls.
The study further showed the importance of the endothelium
or inner lining of the artery in obesity and suggested that
treating the inflammation could help prevent heart attacks,
strokes and other diseases associated with obesity. Obesity
is a life threatening disease which should be treated immediately.
Diet pills such as phentermine is an effective means of
combating the disease.
