Weight loss achieved by reducing intake of sweetened drinks
March 07, 2006
Latest finding suggests that the reduction of sweetened
drink intake can help teens to lose weight. The study followed
103 children aged between 13 to 18 years for six months.
Out of these, half of the teens got weekly deliveries of
non-caloric beverages of their choice, such as bottled waters.
They were told to avoid sugar-sweetened beverages. The other
half, which was the control group, continued their usual
eating and drinking patterns.
After the end of six months, the teenagers who received
the beverage deliveries drank 82-percent less sweetened
drinks. Those in the control group did not change their
intake. The more a teen weighed at the start of the study,
the greater the effect on body weight. Among the heaviest
one-third of teens, the beverage-delivery group had a significant
decrease in body mass index (BMI), while the control group
had a slight increase.
Obesity is gradually taking the shape of an epidemic. It
can be controlled by proper usage of diet pills such as
phentermine. Diet can lead to weight loss within a short
span of time.
