Video technology used to fight
obesity
January 25, 2006
West Virginia is turning to video technology to fight obesity.
State and school officials are teaming up with Konami Digital
Entertainment Inc. to place its Dance Revolution in all
765 of the state's public schools. The plan is intended
to reduce the occurrence of obesity epidemic among the state's
youngsters. It is the first statewide program to use the
dance video game.
The game is a fixture at arcades and is popular among teens
and adults. The fast-paced game requires players to dance
on a pad lined with sensors. It times their steps against
the music and to video instructions on the screen. Some
3 million units of the game have sold since 2001. Apart
from this initiative, weight loss can be attained by using
diet pills such as phentermine, Adipex and Xenical. A combination
of proper diet and regular exercise is one of the best methods
of attaining permanent weight loss.
