Weight Loss may stop at some point
August 30, 2006
A new fact “weight loss may stop at some point” has been researched by Australian researchers. According to their studies human body is programmed to resist weight loss. This fact is also true for dieters and longer exercised people told by Queensland University of Technology researcher Neil King. Dr. King said it was found that people can still stay at constant body weight even if they keep exercising and taking energy out of their system.
The research which will be presented at international congress on Obesity in Sydney involves two studies. First study included a 12 week lab based program in which 30 men and women from Britain took part and done five times a week exercise program. Second study included a commercial weight loss program which involves exercise and dietary advice for 200 Australian men. After the study Dr. King found that both groups were still plateaued even after having different cource of therapy.
Dr King believed the body struck a plateau because it is designed to cope with famine, "not the current obesogenic environment which enforces inactivity and a plentiful food supply".
The next research for Dr. King is to identify the mechanism responsible for inbuilt weight loss resistance.
