The Rising Epidemic, an Overview
Obesity reflects significant changes in the society
and altering behavioral patterns of communities. Economic
growth, modernization, urbanization and globalization are
the forces which lie beneath the growing epidemic but societal
changes and nutritional transition have triggered it. Childhood
obesity is an alarming factor which requires immediate attention.
Obesity in youth aged 12-17 has increased from 5 to 13%
in boys and 5 % to 9% in girls.
